SMA Player Of The Year: Jim Tracy, head of advisory services and consulting, Smith Barney

- 03/06/2008

 Jim Tracy, Smith Barney

 Jim Tracy

Smith Barney has expanded its lead in fee-based advisory under Tracy's leadership. Previously head of Smith Barney's Consulting Group, Tracy brought innovation to the firm's separately managed accounts as head of investment advisory services and consulting.

Under his watch, Smith Barney launched Select Portfolios, becoming the first of the wirehouse SMA platforms to offer multi-strategy accounts with overlay management and active tax management. Smith Barney also became the first firm to offer exchange-traded fund portfolios that were actively managed.

In April, Smith Barney will roll out two new unified managed account programs designed to offer broader features and more options. Tracy has also spearheaded a change to Smith Barney's manager research, expanding it to include account manager style, asset class expertise and advice on how managers can tie their strategies into separate accounts. He also guided non-managed fee-based programs through Securities and Exchange Commission regulatory changes and integrated the back office of Smith Barney's advisory programs to create one platform offering a single account and reporting system to investors.
